Apple has issued new internal guidance to Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers on how to handle reports of iPhone Duo inner displays cracking along the fold.
According to an internal memo obtained by MacRumors, technicians have been told to inspect affected iPhone Duo units and repair or replace them using Apple’s standard service procedures.
Apple says the problem affects only a small number of devices and that most iPhone Duo units are not susceptible. The company also says affected units tend to show the problem relatively quickly after use.
The guidance follows Apple’s public acknowledgment of the display cracking issue earlier this week, when it advised customers experiencing problems to contact AppleCare for a replacement.
The first reports emerged shortly after iPhone Duo launched, with some owners sharing images of cracks and bright lines forming around the center fold of the inner display.
Apple has not announced a recall or launched a public repair program for the issue. For now, affected customers are being directed through normal AppleCare and service channels.
