Apple is pitching the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 as a major upgrade for owners of older Apple silicon models, with some AI workloads running up to 13x faster than on the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1.
Apple says time to first token for large language model prompt processing can be up to 13x faster than M1, while ray-traced rendering in Blender can be up to 11.7x faster.
Image processing in Affinity can be up to 3.3x faster, while project builds in Xcode can be up to 2.5x faster than on the M1 MacBook Pro.
Beyond raw performance, users moving from M1 also gain up to four additional hours of battery life, 16GB of unified memory as standard, an additional Thunderbolt port and the option of the space black finish.
The new M6 14-inch MacBook Pro was announced today, with preorders opening October 28.
