Apple says M6 iMac is up to 18x faster than the most popular Intel iMac

Apple is making its strongest upgrade pitch yet to Intel iMac owners, claiming the new M6 model can deliver performance that is up to 18x faster than the most popular Intel-based iMac.

The jump comes from Apple’s latest M6 chip, which combines up to a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, Neural Accelerators in every GPU core and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine.

Apple says users moving from older Intel machines will also gain access to modern Mac features including Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, along with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, faster storage and support for up to two 6K external displays.

The new iMac retains the 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, 12MP Center Stage camera and six-speaker sound system, but moves the all-in-one significantly forward internally.

Apple has been trying to move the remaining Intel Mac installed base to Apple silicon for several years. The M6 iMac was unveiled today and starts at $1,499 in the United States.
