iPhone Duo can run two apps side by side on its 7.6-inch inner display using Split View, bringing true split-screen multitasking to iPhone. You can open two different apps together, use two windows from the same supported app, and save frequently used combinations as app pairs.
Split View works when iPhone Duo is open in landscape, with both apps sharing the screen equally. It is useful for combinations such as Messages and Photos, Safari and Notes, or Mail and Files.
The feature is part of the iPhone Duo-specific multitasking experience in iOS 27.1. The Apple Post has also covered the release of iOS 27.1 for iPhone Duo and the wider software changes designed around the foldable display.
There is a second way to start Split View directly from the Home Screen: touch and hold an app icon, tap Open in Split View, then choose the second app.
To move one of the open apps to the opposite side, swipe up from the bottom of that app, pause in the center, then drag it across to the other side of the display.
Apps that support multiple windows can also appear twice in Split View. Apple lists Mail, Notes, Safari and Files among the supported examples.
If you regularly use the same two apps together, iPhone Duo can pair them so opening either one automatically opens the other alongside it.
To unpair them, drag the center divider all the way to the left or right edge of the screen.
To return one app to full screen, drag the divider in the center all the way to either edge. To leave both apps and return to the Home Screen, swipe up from the middle of the display.
Apple documents Split View and app pairing in the iPhone User Guide. For a broader look at the foldable, The Apple Post’s complete iPhone Duo guide covers its displays, cameras, software and other features.
