Smart Take on iPhone Duo can automatically take photos when it detects that you are posing or holding still, making it possible to step into a group shot without using a timer or asking someone else to press the shutter.
The feature works when iPhone Duo is stable on a table, tripod or another secure surface. Once Smart Take starts, the phone watches for a pose and can capture up to 20 photos over a couple of minutes.
A flash blink lets you know when iPhone Duo has taken a photo, so you can stay in position without returning to the phone after every shot.
iPhone Duo will automatically take photos when it detects an appropriate moment. You can leave Smart Take running for a couple of minutes while it captures multiple shots.
Apple says Smart Take can capture up to 20 photos during a session lasting a couple of minutes. You do not have to press the shutter for each image.
To stop the session manually, tap the Smart Take button. If you want to start another round of hands-free photos, tap the button again.
The Smart Take button appears automatically when iPhone Duo detects that it is stable. If it is missing, first make sure the phone is securely positioned, then open Camera Controls and select Smart Take manually.
Smart Take is enabled by default when iPhone Duo is placed on a surface. If you do not want the Smart Take button to appear automatically, you can disable the feature from Camera Controls.
When Smart Take is disabled, its button will no longer automatically appear on the camera screen when the phone is placed on a surface.
Apple documents the feature in the iPhone User Guide. Smart Take is one of several camera features designed around the folding form factor, alongside Kid Cue and outer-display previews.
