Apple invites media to October 28 Mac and iPad launch experience

Breaking News Apple’s second major product launch of October is becoming much more concrete, with the company now inviting selected members of the media to an all-day product experience in Los Angeles on October 28.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said on X that the event will be focused on Apple’s upcoming touchscreen MacBooks, a new iPad mini and M6-powered Macs, adding a significant new detail to earlier reporting about the company’s late-October launch plans.
The media invitations provide the clearest indication yet that Apple is preparing a substantial second hardware push this month, following its October 13 “Welcome home” launch for HomeView, HomePod mini 2 and the new Apple TV 4K.
Apple had already been reported to be planning activity in Los Angeles around October 27 and October 28, but those earlier plans were described as creator and influencer experiences. The Apple Post previously reported on those Los Angeles events. Gurman’s latest post now confirms that at least some media are being invited to a dedicated all-day product launch experience on October 28.
The headline announcement is expected to be Apple’s first touchscreen MacBook, marking one of the biggest changes to the MacBook Pro in years. The redesigned high-end models are expected to feature OLED displays, direct touch support, lighter enclosures and a Dynamic Island-style display cutout.
Apple has been steadily laying the groundwork for touch input on the Mac. macOS 27.2 has already revealed additional touch-like interface behavior, strengthening expectations that Apple is preparing macOS for direct interaction with a MacBook display.
The new touchscreen MacBooks are expected to sit alongside more conventional M6 Mac updates. Gurman has previously reported that Apple is preparing an updated 14-inch MacBook Pro and a refreshed iMac with the M6 chip, extending Apple’s latest generation of silicon across more of the Mac lineup.
A new iPad mini is also expected to be part of the October 28 experience. The compact tablet is reportedly moving to an OLED display and is expected to use Apple’s A20 Pro chip, alongside a landscape-oriented front camera and redesigned speaker system. Recent reports have also suggested improved water resistance and a higher starting price.
We recently rounded up everything Apple is still expected to announce this October, including the touchscreen MacBook Pro, M6 Macs and redesigned iPad mini.
Gurman’s wording is also notable because he describes the Los Angeles gathering specifically as a “product launch experience,” rather than simply a hands-on session after an online announcement. Apple has not publicly announced another event, so it remains unclear exactly how the products will be unveiled or whether a prerecorded presentation will be released before invited media begin their hands-on sessions.
What is increasingly clear, however, is that Apple’s October hardware rollout is not over. With media now being invited to Los Angeles and multiple major products expected, October 28 is shaping up to be one of the company’s most important Mac and iPad days of the year.
