Apple has reportedly increased iPhone Duo orders by 30% just days before pre-orders open, suggesting the company is preparing for stronger demand for its first foldable iPhone than originally planned.
According to China’s Securities Times, Apple has made a structural adjustment to its fall 2026 iPhone orders, increasing supply-chain orders for iPhone Duo by 30%. The report says total orders for the foldable remain below 10 million units.
The increase comes before customers have been able to place paid pre-orders. Apple will open iPhone Duo pre-orders on Friday, October 16, with the device officially launching one week later on October 23.
Securities Times says the revised order volume represents a significant increase for iPhone Duo as Apple prepares for its first foldable iPhone launch. Counterpoint Research had previously estimated that around 6 million units could be sold during 2026, while earlier production estimates had generally pointed to a limited first-year supply.
The latest report arrives after The Apple Post reported that Apple had recently feared production problems could push the iPhone Duo launch into late November. Bloomberg said Apple ultimately built enough inventory to keep the October 23 release on schedule, although initial availability is still expected to be constrained.
Increasing supply-chain orders by 30% does not necessarily mean every additional device will be available for launch day, but it indicates Apple is planning for substantially more iPhone Duo units than before as the new model enters its first sales period.
The same Securities Times report says Apple has also adjusted the production mix for its iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Orders for iPhone 18 Pro are said to have fallen by between 10% and 15%, while iPhone 18 Pro Max orders have increased by roughly the same amount.
Crucially, the report says combined orders for the iPhone 18 Pro series are unchanged. That differs from an earlier Nikkei Asia report that said Apple had reduced component orders for its Pro models amid softer-than-expected demand. The Apple Post previously reported on those iPhone 18 Pro production cuts.
For iPhone Duo, Apple’s latest reported production increase lands at a critical moment. Customers can begin preparing their orders through Apple’s Get Ready process now, before pre-orders officially open at 5 a.m. PT / 8 a.m. ET and 1 p.m. UK time on October 16.
iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 in the United States and £1,999 in the United Kingdom. The Apple Post has a full breakdown of iPhone Duo pricing and release dates ahead of launch.
