iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders are now open: Here’s what you need to know

Pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are now open, giving customers their first opportunity to order Apple’s new flagship iPhones ahead of next week’s release.

Apple opened orders at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on Saturday, September 12 across more than 65 countries and regions. The first deliveries and in-store availability begin Friday, September 18.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max earlier this week, introducing the A20 Pro chip, a smaller Dynamic Island, longer battery life and a significantly upgraded camera system.

How to pre-order iPhone 18 Pro

Orders can be placed through Apple’s online store and Apple Store app, as well as through participating carriers and retailers.

Customers hoping for a particular color, storage capacity or launch-day delivery should pay close attention to the estimated arrival date shown during checkout. Individual configurations can begin slipping beyond September 18 as initial stock is claimed.

iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, while iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299. Both models start with 256GB of storage and are also available with 512GB, 1TB and 2TB.

Apple offers the Pro lineup in black, silver, glacier and burgundy.

What’s new with iPhone 18 Pro?

The camera is one of the biggest upgrades this year.

iPhone 18 Pro introduces Apple’s first variable-aperture 48MP Fusion Main camera. Six physical aperture blades allow the camera to adjust its aperture, while Apple has added new manual Pro controls for aperture, shutter speed and white balance.

Inside, Apple’s new A20 Pro is its first iPhone chip manufactured using a 2nm process. Apple has paired it with a redesigned vapor chamber to improve sustained performance during demanding tasks such as gaming, video editing and AI processing.

There is a noticeable change on the front too. The Dynamic Island is smaller on iPhone 18 Pro and can now display three Live Activities at once.

Battery life has also taken a significant step forward, particularly on the larger model. iPhone 18 Pro Max delivers up to 45 hours of video playback, with Apple describing it as the biggest battery-life improvement it has made to an iPhone.

When will iPhone 18 Pro arrive?

The first iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max orders are scheduled to arrive on Friday, September 18, which is also when the devices will become available in Apple Stores.

Customers ordering after the initial rush should check the delivery estimate displayed during checkout rather than assuming their phone will arrive on release day. Different combinations of model, color and storage can move beyond September 18 independently as availability changes.

Anyone planning to collect from an Apple Store should also check local availability, as individual configurations may become unavailable for pickup even when other versions remain in stock.

Should you pre-order iPhone 18 Pro?

Pre-ordering makes the most sense if you already know you want an iPhone 18 Pro and have a particular color, storage capacity or launch-day delivery in mind.

There is less reason to rush if you are still deciding whether the upgrade is worth it.

For iPhone 17 Pro owners in particular, we’ve compared the two generations and looked at whether upgrading to iPhone 18 Pro actually makes sense.

Waiting also gives you the opportunity to see independent reviews and real-world testing of the new variable-aperture camera, A20 Pro performance, battery life and thermal improvements before spending at least $1,199.

There is another option this year too. Apple’s first foldable iPhone arrives in October, and our iPhone 18 Pro vs. iPhone Duo comparison looks at which of Apple’s two premium iPhones makes more sense.

For anyone already decided on iPhone 18 Pro, however, pre-orders are open now ahead of the first deliveries on Friday, September 18.
