iPhone 18 Pro’s smaller Dynamic Island can show three Live Activities at once

Apple has officially redesigned the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, shrinking the display area while increasing the amount of live information it can show.

The updated Dynamic Island can display as many as three Live Activities simultaneously, giving apps more room to surface ongoing information without users having to leave what they are doing.

The change confirms a leaked demonstration published ahead of Apple’s event, which appeared to show iOS 27 switching between three activities on a narrower sensor area.

Despite the reduced size, Apple has retained Face ID rather than moving the iPhone 18 Pro to a different authentication system. Face ID continues to handle unlocking, purchases and app authentication through the redesigned area.

Dynamic Island first appeared on iPhone 14 Pro in 2022 and has remained relatively similar in physical size since its introduction. The iPhone 18 Pro therefore represents one of the most noticeable changes to the front of Apple’s Pro iPhone in several generations.

The smaller Dynamic Island accompanies a collection of other hardware upgrades including A20 Pro, a variable-aperture 48MP Fusion Main camera, Apple’s C2 modem and redesigned thermal system.

Apple is offering the iPhone 18 Pro lineup in black, silver, glacier and burgundy.

Pre-orders begin Saturday, September 12, before the phones arrive on Friday, September 18.
