iPhone 18 Pro Max delivers up to 45 hours of video playback as Apple makes major battery gains

Apple is making battery life one of the headline upgrades to the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, with the iPhone 18 Pro Max now rated for as much as 45 hours of video playback on eSIM-only models.

The smaller iPhone 18 Pro reaches up to 36 hours under the same measurement, giving both models a substantial endurance boost as Apple combines redesigned batteries with the efficiency improvements of its new A20 Pro chip.

Apple says eSIM-only models gain an additional advantage because the space previously occupied by the physical SIM hardware can instead be used for a larger battery. Those versions provide two additional hours of video playback.

Charging is faster as well. iPhone 18 Pro can reach 50 percent in around 15 minutes with wired charging, while a 50 percent wireless charge takes around 30 minutes.

On iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple says five minutes of wired charging can provide approximately seven hours of video playback. Using a separate battery usage model based on real-world data, Apple rates the Pro Max for up to 30 hours of general usage on a full charge.

The improvements are closely tied to A20 Pro, Apple’s first Pro iPhone processor manufactured using a 2-nanometer process. The phones also use Apple’s new C2 modem, which consumes 15 percent less energy than C1X while offering faster upload performance.

Thermal management has been redesigned at the same time. A new vapor chamber has three times the surface area of the system in iPhone 17 Pro, helping the phones sustain demanding workloads without sacrificing performance as quickly.

Battery improvements were among the major upgrades expected before Apple’s announcement, particularly for the larger Pro Max.
