Apple Health app will let users order $119 lab tests covering more than 50 biomarkers

Apple is expanding the Health app beyond storing laboratory results, announcing plans to let users in the United States schedule and purchase new lab tests directly from their iPhone.

The service will be offered through Quest Diagnostics and will cover more than 50 key biomarkers for $119, according to Apple.

Testing will be available at approximately 2,000 Quest Diagnostics locations across the United States, with the option forming part of the redesigned Health app arriving later this year.

Health already allows users to import supported laboratory results and follow changes over time. The new feature goes a step further by allowing eligible users to arrange new testing from within the same app.

Lab information can also contribute to Apple’s new Longevity experience. The forthcoming Health Age feature can use Apple Watch measurements such as VO2 max, resting heart rate, sleep and heart rate variability, while users can add lab data including A1c and LDL to provide additional context.

Apple is also planning tailored educational content around health information. Following annual lab results, for example, the Health app could present a video from an Apple Health clinical expert explaining what an LDL measurement means and the steps a user may be able to take to improve it.

The laboratory testing option is one of several significant additions coming to Health, alongside Apple Intelligence-powered Insights, a new Longevity tab, Health Age and at-home Movement Evaluations using iPhone and Apple Watch.

The redesigned Health app will launch later this year, beginning in U.S. English. Apple says feature availability will vary depending on device, region and language.
