Apple Watch owners should learn exactly when watchOS 27 will be released during Apple’s September event tomorrow, with recent history pointing to a public launch less than a week after the keynote.
Apple has increasingly released its major operating system updates together. In 2025, watchOS 26 arrived on Monday, September 15, alongside iOS 26 and iPadOS 26. The year before, watchOS 11 was released on Monday, September 16 following Apple’s September 9 event.
Based on that pattern, Monday, September 14 looks like the strongest candidate for the watchOS 27 release date this year. That would put the update five days after Apple’s September 9 “Surprise and shine” event.
Apple’s testing schedule also suggests the update is nearly ready. The Apple Post reported last month that watchOS 27 had reached its seventh developer beta, and Apple has continued moving its software toward final release since then.
A Release Candidate is likely to be distributed after tomorrow’s keynote. Apple commonly uses the RC build as the final version supplied to developers before the same software is pushed to millions of devices several days later.
There may be more to watchOS 27 than Apple revealed at WWDC. Code discoveries have recently pointed to an unannounced Readiness app and other functionality that could tie into the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 expected tomorrow. As reported by MacRumors, references also suggest revised sensing hardware and potentially 128GB of storage on the new watches.
Apple is expected to confirm both the new Apple Watch hardware and its final watchOS 27 rollout plans during tomorrow’s event. If the company sticks closely to its established timetable, existing compatible Apple Watches could receive the update on September 14.
