Apple is reportedly preparing three significant upgrades for the second-generation iPhone Air, with the ultra-thin iPhone expected to return in 2027 with improvements aimed at addressing some of the biggest compromises of the current model.
According to details from Bloomberg, the iPhone Air 2 is expected to gain an Ultra Wide camera, a faster chip and improved battery life.
The addition of an Ultra Wide camera would be particularly notable. Apple’s first-generation iPhone Air prioritizes its thin and lightweight design, leaving the device with a more limited rear camera system than the company’s Pro models. Adding a second camera would make the next model considerably more versatile without abandoning the Air concept.
Battery life is also reportedly a focus for the second generation. The exceptionally thin chassis of the iPhone Air naturally limits the amount of internal space available for a battery, making any improvement in endurance an important upgrade for the lineup.

The faster chip is less surprising, with Apple routinely updating its processors between iPhone generations, but the combination of better performance, longer battery life and an expanded camera system could make the iPhone Air 2 a more rounded device.
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone Air 2 in 2027 as part of its changing iPhone release strategy, which will see some models move away from the company’s traditional September launch window.
The new schedule is expected to give Apple’s different iPhone ranges more room to stand on their own, with the Air continuing to occupy the ultra-thin end of the lineup while the Pro and foldable models target the premium market.
