A Tokyo pharmacy has developed its own Mac-based inventory system to reduce medicine waste, simplify ordering and give pharmacists more time to focus on patients.
Nagomi Pharmacy, founded in 2007, operates three locations in Tokyo and was created around the idea of providing more personal, community-focused care.
According to Apple, founder Hikaru Watanabe built a custom inventory and ordering system using FileMaker Pro on Mac after finding that existing software did not meet the pharmacy’s needs.
The system gives staff a central view of prescription drug inventory across all three locations, helping them maintain stock levels, predict future orders and reduce the amount of medication that expires before it can be used.
Watanabe says the more accurate ordering and inventory management enabled by the Mac-based system saves the business hundreds to thousands of dollars each month.
By reducing the time pharmacists spend on administrative work, Nagomi Pharmacy says it is able to devote more attention to customers and maintain the personalised approach that the business was founded around.
