German e-bike subscription company Dance has built much of its operation around Apple hardware and software, using Mac, iPhone, iPad and Swift across its offices, workshops and customer-facing services.
Founded in 2020, Dance set out to make electric bikes easier to access in cities through a subscription model. From the beginning, the company chose Apple products as the foundation for its technology setup.
According to Apple, employees at Dance’s German headquarters use Mac for design, development and collaboration, while workshop mechanics use iPhone to scan QR codes attached to bikes and access each vehicle’s service history.
iPad is used for workforce tasks including timesheets and shift management, while customers can use the Dance app on iPhone to manage their accounts and arrange roadside repairs.
Dance also developed custom software in Swift for its mechanics and operations teams. Apple says one of the company’s early employees learned Swift within a few weeks and built an internal iOS app within months, helping the business tailor its workflows rather than rely entirely on off-the-shelf software.
The company has also used Swift for its customer app, which can display account information and real-time journey data from connected e-bikes.
