Apple reportedly cancels plans for two previously rumored MacBooks

Apple has reportedly abandoned development of two MacBook concepts that had been expected to broaden the company’s notebook lineup, including a large foldable model and a separate oversized OLED MacBook.
Research firm Omdia claims Apple has dropped plans for a foldable MacBook with a display measuring between 16.1 and 18 inches when opened. The project had appeared in earlier supply-chain reports and had already faced delays, with uncertainty over whether Apple ultimately viewed the device as a MacBook or a large foldable iPad.
A second machine has apparently been cancelled alongside it. According to Omdia, Apple had considered an OLED MacBook measuring somewhere between 14.4 and 16.1 inches, creating another premium tier around the sizes currently occupied by the MacBook Pro.
Rather than continuing with those products, Apple now appears to be reshaping its future notebook strategy around a smaller number of more clearly differentiated models. MacRumors reports that Omdia still expects Apple to expand OLED technology across its MacBook and iPad families, despite the cancellation of the two individual projects.
One potential replacement in that strategy is an entirely new 13.8-inch OLED MacBook. The rumored machine would sit above the LCD MacBook Air but below Apple’s high-end OLED notebooks, potentially giving customers another option without introducing a larger model that overlaps heavily with the MacBook Pro.
Apple’s existing 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro sizes are therefore expected to remain central to the company’s professional notebook lineup. New OLED versions of those machines are reportedly in development, with the possibility that Apple could position the most advanced configurations under new MacBook Ultra branding.
The apparent cancellations come as Apple prepares a wider overhaul of the Mac family. The Apple Post previously reported that updates are planned across much of the lineup over the next two years, including the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, Mac Studio and iMac.
