Apple has released the first developer beta of iOS 27, but those eager to try the company’s new Siri AI experience may have to wait a little longer.
While Siri AI was one of the headline features unveiled during Apple’s WWDC26 keynote on Monday, access is not immediately available to all beta testers. Instead, Apple is using a waitlist system, similar to the rollout of Apple Intelligence features during the iOS 18.1 beta cycle.
After installing iOS 27 beta 1, users can join the waitlist by opening the Settings app, navigating to the new Siri section, and selecting the option to join the waitlist. Once registered, Apple says users will receive a notification when Siri AI becomes available on their device.
Siri AI is Apple’s next-generation assistant powered by Apple Intelligence. The new experience brings a redesigned interface that lives in the Dynamic Island, more natural conversations, richer responses, a dedicated Siri app, and new features such as Write with Siri, which can help users draft emails, messages, and other text while adapting to their personal communication style.
Apple also introduced a new swipe-down gesture from the Dynamic Island that allows users to start a conversation with Siri by typing, alongside traditional voice activation using “Hey Siri” or the side button.
The waitlist approach mirrors Apple’s rollout strategy for Apple Intelligence in 2024, when access to new AI features was gradually expanded to eligible devices. Apple has not said how long users should expect to wait for access, though availability is expected to increase as the beta testing period continues.
iOS 27 is currently available to registered developers, with a public beta expected next month ahead of a wider release this autumn. Siri AI will initially launch in English later this year, with support for additional languages to follow.
