Apple details next generation of Apple Intelligence features in iOS 27

Apple has unveiled the next generation of Apple Intelligence, bringing a range of new AI-powered features to iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, and Apple Vision Pro. The update expands Apple’s existing AI platform with new tools for Photos, Safari, Messages, Passwords, Home, Shortcuts, and more.

While Apple Intelligence debuted last year, the initial rollout received a mixed response from users, with some features arriving later than expected and others offering relatively modest improvements compared to rival AI platforms. With iOS 27, Apple is aiming to make AI a much larger part of the operating system by integrating it more deeply into everyday apps and workflows.

One of the biggest additions is a major overhaul of Siri, now known as Siri AI. The assistant can access personal context across messages, emails, photos, and apps, answer questions using information from the web, and maintain ongoing conversations through a new dedicated Siri app.

The Photos app gains new editing tools, including Spatial Reframing, which allows users to adjust the perspective of a photo after it has been taken, and an improved Clean Up tool for removing unwanted objects from images. Apple says AI-edited photos will include a hidden SynthID watermark.

Safari is also receiving several AI-powered features. The browser can automatically organise tabs into topics, monitor webpages for changes such as price drops and product restocks, and even generate custom extensions based on a user’s description.

Apple is also expanding the capabilities of the Passwords app. Building on its existing ability to detect weak and compromised passwords, the app can now automatically update supported accounts with stronger passwords on a user’s behalf.

Elsewhere, Messages and Mail gain smarter suggestions based on conversation context, Calendar can create events from natural language descriptions, Shortcuts can build automations from simple prompts, and the Home app can generate descriptions of security camera footage and make clips easier to search.

Apple Intelligence features will begin rolling out this fall as part of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 on supported devices.
