Apple confirms Google Gemini will power next-generation Siri

Apple says Google’s Gemini technology will help power the next major version of Siri due later this year.
In a statement shared with CNBC, the company said it had evaluated multiple options before selecting Google’s model.
“After careful evaluation, we determined that Google’s technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and we’re excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for our users,” the statement said.
The upgraded Siri is expected to debut with iOS 26.4, which is likely to arrive in March or April.
Apple first previewed its revamped Siri features at WWDC in 2024. The launch was later delayed as the company continued refining the technology.
The new Siri system is built around a redesigned architecture with three parts: a query planner, a knowledge engine and a summariser.
Google’s Gemini models are expected to support the planner and summariser functions, helping Siri interpret requests and generate responses.
Apple says user privacy will remain central to the experience, with requests processed on Apple’s own infrastructure rather than Google’s and no personal data shared externally.
The partnership mirrors Samsung’s approach with Galaxy AI, which also draws on Gemini models for some features.
