iPhone 17e tipped for spring launch with MagSafe and upgraded Apple modem

Apple is reportedly preparing to refresh its entry-level iPhone lineup, with a new iPhone 17e expected to launch in the spring.
According to a report from The Information, the device would mark the first update to Apple’s “e” series and is expected to introduce features missing from the current model — most notably MagSafe support, enabling magnetic accessories and wireless charging.
The iPhone 17e is also said to feature Apple’s next-generation in-house cellular modem, known as the C1X. The updated modem would build on the original C1 chip, offering improved 5G performance and greater power efficiency.
While internal components are expected to see modest improvements, the report suggests the overall design will remain largely unchanged from the iPhone 16e, with Apple focusing on refinements rather than a full redesign.
Apple launched the iPhone 16e earlier this year as a successor to the budget-focused iPhone SE range. Priced from $599, the handset introduced Apple Intelligence support through the A18 chip, alongside a 48-megapixel dual-purpose camera system, an Action button and satellite-based features.
The iPhone 16e features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, Face ID, USB-C charging and Apple’s first custom cellular modem. It is available in black and white matte finishes, with official cases offered as accessories.
