Apple to launch base iPhone 18 in spring 2027, six months after iPhone 18 Pro models

Respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reaffirmed reports that Apple plans to shake up its iPhone release strategy by staggering the launch of the iPhone 18 lineup—marking a significant departure from the company’s traditional fall schedule. According to Kuo, Apple will unveil the iPhone 18 Pro models in fall 2026, while the base iPhone 18 won’t arrive until spring 2027, roughly six months later.
This year, Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 17 lineup in September, featuring the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a new model called the iPhone 17 Air. These devices are likely to launch later that month or in early October.
Looking ahead to 2026, the iPhone 18 series will comprise the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, a second-generation iPhone 18 Air, and Apple’s long-rumored first foldable iPhone. However, the base iPhone 18 will be held back, with a standalone launch planned for spring 2027.
Apple is also expected to continue this staggered release approach with the iPhone 19 lineup between 2027 and 2028.
Kuo’s latest report comes after a similar claim from The Information, which also reported that Apple intends to spread out iPhone launches starting in 2026. Both Kuo and The Information cite marketing advantages and streamlined manufacturing as key reasons for the shift in strategy.
Kuo has also suggested that Apple’s second-generation “iPhone Air” could feature a larger display than the inaugural model.
