Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki dies, aged 56

Susan Wojcicki, former CEO of YouTube and one of Google’s earliest employees, has passed away at the age of 56 after a two-year battle with lung cancer. The news of her death was announced by her husband, Dennis Troper, who shared his grief in a Facebook post on Friday. Troper wrote, “It is with profound sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki passing. My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after two years of living with non-small cell lung cancer.”
Susan Wojcicki was a trailblazing figure in the tech industry, serving as YouTube’s CEO for nine years before stepping down in 2023 to focus on her family and personal health. Her leadership at YouTube followed a successful tenure as Google’s senior vice-president for ad products, where she was instrumental in the development and growth of the company’s advertising and video platforms.
Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, expressed his sorrow on social media, stating, “Unbelievably saddened by the loss of my dear friend Susan Wojcicki after two years of living with cancer. She is as core to the history of Google as anyone, and it’s hard to imagine the world without her. She was an incredible person, leader and friend who had a tremendous impact on the world and I’m one of countless Googlers who is better for knowing her. We will miss her dearly. Our thoughts with her family. RIP Susan.”
