Evans Hankey leaving Apple after replacing Jony Ive in 2019

Evans Hankey, the VP overseeing Apple’s industrial design team, will depart the iPhone maker in six months, leaving her role after taking over from Chief Design Officer Jony Ive, who left Apple three years ago to open his own independent design practice.
As reported by Bloomberg on Friday, Hankey’s departure from the company was announced internally this week, “creating a significant hole at the top,” according to people cited in the report with knowledge of the matter.
“Apple’s design team brings together expert creatives from around the world and across many disciplines to imagine products that are undeniably Apple,” a spokesman told Bloomberg in a statement. “The senior design team has strong leaders with decades of experience. Evans plans to stay on as we work through the transition, and we’d like to thank her for her leadership and contributions.”
The reason for Hankey’s departure is unknown, with it unclear what the designer plans to do moving forward in her post-Apple career.
