Apple has quietly announced that it plans to introduce a new Clean Energy Charging feature for iPhone later this year, which will optimize charging times for when the grid is using cleaner energy sources, helping to decrease the carbon footprint of charging an iPhone overnight.

Coming to users in the US this fall, Apple is yet to share any further details on the Clean Energy Charging feature for iPhone, or how the feature will work, although it seems that iOS 16 will delay overnight charging and commence the recharge during time periods where the grid outputs cleaner energy.

Apple says “Clean Energy Charging aims to decrease the carbon footprint of the iPhone by optimizing charging times for when the grid is using cleaner energy sources.”
