iOS 16 battery percentage indicator limited to these iPhone models

Apple today seeded the fifth beta of iOS 16, adding back the battery percentage indicator to the status bar on iPhone to show the percentage of available battery, with the color of the percentage indicator changing dynamically based on the user’s wallpaper, and whether or not the user is charging their iPhone or has Low Power Mode enabled.

Despite the battery percentage indicator being a welcomed new addition by many, Apple has seemingly limited the new feature to select iPhone models, with users noticing that the new battery percentage setting is not available on some of Apple’s smaller iPhone models, including the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini.

Until now, Apple has only shown users a visual representation of the battery level rather than an exact percentage, with users having to swipe down to open Control Center to view the percentage due to the lack of space in the iPhone status bar because of the space taken up by the TrueDepth camera system.

These are the devices that show Apple’s new battery percentage indicator in iOS 16

  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone X

The battery percentage indicator option is not available on the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 13 mini.
