Outages take down Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp

Facebook has reported a mass outage impacting all of its services, including the Facebook app, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

At the time of writing, the outages have been ongoing for over six hours, with the issues appearing to be hitting users worldwide, leaving arguably three of the biggest social networking and messaging platforms unavailable without any clear indication as to when the services will return to normal.

Taking to Twitter, Facebook’s chief technical officer Mike Schroepfer said “*Sincere* apologies to everyone impacted by outages of Facebook powered services right now. We are experiencing networking issues and teams are working as fast as possible to debug and restore as fast as possible.”

The cause of the outages remains unknown, with some speculating that today’s issues could be related to DNS changes.

Alongside Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, the outages are also reportly hitting the company’s internal systems and employee emails. The issues also are hitting Facebook’s other apps and services including Messenger, Business Suite, and Oculus.
