Twitter pauses verification program rollout to make improvements to application and review process

Twitter has announced it is hitting pause on rolling out access to apply for verification on the platform, noting that it is making improvements to the application and review process after launching a self-serve way for users to request one of the social network’s highly sought-after blue checkmark badges earlier this year.

“We’ve temporarily hit pause on rolling out access to apply for Verification so we can make improvements to the application and review process,” Twitter said on Friday. “For those who have been waiting, we know this may be disappointing. We want to get things right, and appreciate your patience.”

The pause follows after the company announced last month that it would provide context on failed verification requests, making it easier for applicants to understand why their verification request was denied.

There’s no word as of yet on when the rollout will continue.

Twitter’s verification program is open to applications from notable accounts that belong to government officials; companies, brands and nonprofit organizations; news; entertainment; sports; and activists, organizers and other influential individuals. The company said it will look to expand the types of accounts that are eligible for verification in a future update.
