Apple has quietly started selling a new $799 M1 MacBook Air in a 128GB storage configuration online, exclusively for educational institutions, such as schools and colleges.
Spotted by Reddit user “u/dduci97” on Apple’s private online Education Price List, the new 13-inch MacBook Air is $200 cheaper than the regular M1 MacBook Air, which is priced at $999, or $899 for students, in a 256GB configuration.
With the exception of the storage, the machine itself is identical to the public model, featuring a Retina display with True Tone, Touch ID, an 8‑core CPU, 7‑core GPU, and 16‑core Neural Engine, and three finishes: Space Gray, Gold, and Silver.

The reduced price is for institutions that usually purchase devices in bulk for faculty. It is unclear whether this lower-cost MacBook Air configuration will ever be sold to the general public.
