Kaiann Drance discusses iPhone 12, MagSafe, 5G, and more in interview

Vice President of iPhone Marketing, Kaiann Drance, was interviewed on the Rich On Tech podcast with Rich DeMuro this week, discussing the iPhone 12, MagSafe, 5G, battery life, durability, and more.
Drance, who introduced the iPhone 12 last month at Apple’s “Hi, Speed” special event, spoke about how Apple has tried to offset the battery drain caused by 5G usage by launching three new data settings, which allow users to choose whether their iPhone automatically switches between 5G and 4G LTE, reduces Wi-Fi and cellular data usage, or ramps up cellular usage for higher quality FaceTime, streaming, and other 5G tasks.
The interview touched on Apple’s new Ceramic Sheild front glass that makes the iPhone more durable. Drance said that flat-edged design of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro aids drop protection and rigidity, adding that the devices use “the toughest glass available in a smartphone,” which achieves “a 2x performance gain” against accidental drops.
When asked about MagSafe and how the magnets could interfere with the magnetic strip on credit cards or hotel room keycards, Drance said “magnetic stripes that are pretty strong so that shouldn’t be a problem next to your phone… what you do want to just watch out for is those single-use types of cards like the hotel cards… you might not want to put that right against that, but certainly, we’ve got great options like the wallet, the wallet is shielded.”
The interview also touched upon why Apple has decided to cut the power adapter and wired EarPods headphones from the box of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, and what experience customers can expect when visiting an Apple Store to purchase their new device in light of COVID-19 and the measures Apple has put in place to safeguard employees and guests.
