The retail boxes for Apple’s new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro have shrunk dramatically due to the removal of the power adapter and wired EarPods headphones.
According to Lisa Jackson, Apple’s environmental chief, by shrinking the retail box of the new iPhone models, Apple is able to get 70% more products on one shipping pallet, helping reduce carbon emissions as the company works towards its goal to have net zero climate impact across the entire business, which includes manufacturing supply chains and all product life cycles by 2030.
Jackson shared some facts when revealing that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro won’t come with its usual accessories, saying Apple has shipped more than 700 million lightning headphones, despite customers moving to wireless options such as AirPods and Beats, and that there are more than 2 billion Apple power adapters in the world.
Apple is packaging the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini in a slim white box with an image of the colored iPhone on the front with matching Apple and iPhone branding on the sides, whereas the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will come in slim black boxes, again with color matching branding to match the color of the device inside.
