Reliable industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities has claimed Apple won’t include wired EarPod headphones or a charger in the box of this year’s upcoming iPhone 12, suggesting Apple will make a 20-watt USB-C power adapter available for customers to purchase separately instead.
Apple wants to keep the cost of the iPhone 12 around the same as the current-generation iPhone 11, claims Kuo, and by removing the free headphones and charger that usually come packaged in the box, Apple is hoping to offset the cost of adding 5G networking components, he says.
All four of this year’s new models are expected to offer 5G cellular performance, with this set to be one of the biggest selling points for the new models, alongside an all-new design similar to the squared design of the iPad Pro.

Upon launching the new 20-watt USB-C power adapter later this year, Kuo forecasts that Apple will discontinue the current 5-watt and 18-watt chargers bundled with the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro respectively.
Kuo says future iPad models will continue to include a charger in the box.
