‘iPhone 9’ production could be disrupted due to coronavirus outbreak
Apple may see production of its upcoming low-cost iPhone SE predecessor, dubbed the ‘iPhone 9’, disrupted due to the deadly coronavirus outbreak which has resulted in 100 deaths in China, reports Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
iPhone manufacturing is prominently based in China, with Apple’s two key production partners Foxconn and Pegatron located just over 500 kilometers away from Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus outbreak.
Gurman said within a new report he couldn’t “imagine a scenario where the supply chain isn’t disrupted,” a couple of days away from when it was rumored Apple would begin mass production of the new handsets expected to announced in March.
I can’t imagine a scenario where the supply chain isn’t disrupted, said Patrick Moorhead of Moor Insights & Strategy. If there’s one major hiccup in the raw materials, fabrication, assembly, test, and shipping, it will be a disruption.
Apple is said to have ordered 15 million units of the “iPhone 9,” according to the Nikkei Asian Review.
