How to participate in the Grand Canyon-themed Apple Watch Activity Challenge

Apple is hosting a special Apple Watch Activity Challenge to celebrate the Grand Canyon National Park’s 100th anniversary, rewarding participants with exclusive badges in the Activity app, alongside animated stickers which can be sent via iMessage and used during FaceTime calls.

The challenge is open all day on Sunday, August 25th and can be completed by finishing any walk, run, hike, or wheelchair workout within an app that stores workout data to the Health app on iOS.

How to record a Workout on Apple Watch

  1. Open the Workouts app on your Apple Watch and tap either a walk, run, hike, or wheelchair workout
  2. After tapping your selected workout, your Apple Watch will do a 3 second countdown and begin recording your workout
  3. You’ll see the Workouts app show the progress of your workout, including metrics such as the amount of calories burnt, your heart rate and the length of time you’ve been active

When you’ve finished your three mile workout, end your Workout (here’s how to pause and end a Workout on Apple Watch) and await your award! – Apple notes these rewards could take 9 days to appear in the app, although rewards usually show instantly in the Activity app on iPhone.
