Apple to discontinue 15-inch MacBook Pro this fall

Apple will reportedly discontinue the 15-inch MacBook Pro later this year when the rumored all-new 16-inch model is unveiled, according to an IHS Markit analyst.

The report also claims the new machine, expected to launch alongside an updated MacBook Air, will use Intel Coffee Lake-H processors, the same processors used by the current 15-inch MacBook Pro which was released in May.

According to analyst Jeff Lin, “it is confirmed from OEM & panel supplier” that 15.4-inch MacBook Pro production will end in November.

Notably, the report suggests Apple won’t use Intel’s latest 10th-generation Ice Lake processors on the refreshed MacBook Pro, suggesting the chips may not be powerful enough for the machine.

Lin believes the 16-inch MacBook Pro will enter production in September, setting the stage for a fall release.
