Apple releases updated MacBook Pro and new lower-priced MacBook Air

Apple has released updates to the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, lowering the price of the entry-level MacBook Air to $1,099 and adding True Tone to the machine, in addition to adding spec improvements to the MacBook Pro.

The new MacBook Air, which starts at $1,099, or $999 for qualifying students, is down from its original price of $1,299, with Apple adding True Tone to the machine which applies a filter to the display to allow for less strain on the eyes when viewing the screen at night.

Apple is now offering a new $1,299 entry-level MacBook Pro featuring Touch ID and Touch Bar, in addition to 8th-generation quad-core processors. The new machine is priced the same as Apple’s previous entry-level MacBook Pro which didn’t include Touch ID or Touch Bar, and is available to qualifying students as part of Apple’s Back to School promotion for $1,199.

In addition to the new hardware, Apple has discontinued the 12-inch MacBook and previous generation MacBook Air.

Apple’s new Mac hardware is available to order at Apple.com now, and will be available in-store later this week.
