Apple to donate towards rebuild of Notre Dame cathedral

Tim Cook has announced Apple will donate towards the cost of restoring the Notre Dame cathedral after flames engulfed the 12th-century church on Monday, ripping through one of the world’s greatest architectural treasures.

Within a tweet shared today, Cook shared his sympathies “for the French people and those around the world for whom Notre Dame is a symbol of hope.”

French president Emmanuel Macron announced an official fund-raising campaign on Monday evening, and already more than $600 million has been donated by generous supporters such as French luxury and cosmetics group L’Oreal, along with the Bettencourt Meyers family and the Bettencourt Schueller foundation.

Cook hasn’t revealed how much Apple plans to donate.

The cause of the fire has yet to be announced, though the 850-year-old building was undergoing renovations during the time of the blaze.
