Apple is set to take to the stage for its 30th annual Worldwide Developers Conference to unveil iOS 13, macOS 10.15, watchOS 6, and tvOS 13, on Monday, June 3, and one of the new features I’d like to see arriving within the next major software release is FaceTime voicemail: a new feature that would allow users to leave short voicemails and video messages when recipients don’t answer an incoming FaceTime video or audio call.
Much like cellular calls that divert to voicemail when unanswered, my idea of a new FaceTime voicemail service would make it easier for callers to leave short messages when attempting to make a call for a user to playback or listen later when available.
At present, the only way to leave any form of video or voice message after a FaceTime call is either declined or unanswered is by tapping the Messages button on the FaceTime call screen, and choosing between opening up the camera app within Messages, switching to video and recording your message, or by sending a voice recording by holding the microphone icon in Messages and releasing your finger when finished.
The current method highlighted above isn’t complicated by any means, but could easily be enhanced to save time after a call is unanswered.
Let’s say you’re making a FaceTime video call and the recipient doesn’t answer – rather than cutting out after the call goes unanswered, Apple could give you the option to leave a short video message to either be sent as an iMessage to the person you are calling, or within a new voicemail section of the FaceTime app.
