Apple Pay Cash launched to users in the United States in 2017 with the release of iOS 11.2, allowing them to send, request, and receive money from friends and family by using the Apple Pay Cash app inside Messages, or by asking Siri.
Despite rolling out across the U.S. almost 470 days ago, Apple still hasn’t announced plans to expand the person-to-person payment service to other countries across the world, even though Apple Pay, the contactless payment service, as maintained a steady growth and is now available in 34 countries.
So… where is Apple Pay Cash? Apple has remained tightlipped on the future expansion of the PayPal-like service, but that hasn’t stopped little hints within iOS suggesting a wider rollout is on the cards. Following the release of watchOS 5, Apple Watch users outside the United States saw an Apple Pay button when replying to Messages on their watch, and even earlier than that the Apple Pay Cash app was shown in the Messages app on iPhone for some users in Spain, Brazil and Ireland, though it soon disappeared.
With the release of iOS 12.2 on the horizon and the grand unveiling of iOS 13 in the not so far future we are just left waiting now to see if Apple will eventually push the service outside the United States. – We’ve reached out to Apple to ask whether they have any information to share on the expansion of the service and will update the article should we get a response.
