Samsung announces partnership with Apple to add AirPlay 2, iTunes Movies and TV app on Samsung Smart TVs
Samsung has announced a new partnership with Apple that will see the company add AirPlay 2, iTunes Movies and the TV app on all 2019 Samsung Smart TVs and most 2018 Samsung Smart TVs through a software update later this year.
The update to Samsung Smart TVs will see many once-Apple TV set top box exclusive features become available in over 100 countries. iPhone, iPad and Mac users will be able to use AirPlay 2 like they do with all other compatible devices, and a new app will be available through Samsung’s TV platform for iTunes Movies and TV shows.
Apple notes within the announcement that iTunes Movies and TV Shows will work “seamlessly with Samsung’s Smart TV Services, such as Universal Guide, the New Bixby and Search, to create a consistent experience across Samsung’s platform”.
Within a press statement published by Samsung today, Eddy Cue, senior vice president of Internet Software and Services at Apple said they look forward to bringing the iTunes and AirPlay 2 experience to even more customers around the world through Samsung Smart TVs.
We look forward to bringing the iTunes and AirPlay 2 experience to even more customers around the world through Samsung Smart TVs, so iPhone, iPad and Mac users have yet another way to enjoy all their favorite content on the biggest screen in their home.
Although an official launch date hasn’t been shared, Samsung said the new features will start rolling out in the spring.
