Apple releases iOS 12 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

Here it is! Apple has officially released iOS 12, avaliable now to download for iPhone, iPad and of course, the good old iPod touch.

iOS 12 is available for all devices that currently run Apple’s latest software version, iOS 11.4.1, and is free to download now either via iTunes on your Mac or PC, or by selecting “Software Update” in the Settings app of your iOS device. iOS 12 was first previewed in June at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), giving us all a glimpse into the new features arriving within todays update.

Although iOS 12 doesn’t bring massive amounts of new features to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, the software does double down on stability and performance, squashing bugs that have plagued recent iOS releases. Apple claims on the iPhone 6 Plus, with iOS 12 apps now launch up to 60 percent faster than they do with iOS 11, the keyboard can appear 50 percent faster, and sliding over to take photos can be up to 70 percent faster.

Apple has also made big changes to Siri. Siri is becoming more personal by learning what actions you may perform everyday. Siri can now suggest app actions on the lock screen such as ordering coffee or starting a workout. – Siri also now supports “Shortcuts” that automate your daily tasks on iPhone. For example, if you always order coffee from your iPhone at 08:00am, Siri can now do this for you with compatible apps by learning your repeated manual actions.

App such as News, Stocks, Voice Memos, and iBooks have received a UI refresh. Speaking of iBooks, the name is no more. iBooks has now been rebranded as Apple Books. – The Stocks app now includes more charts, top stories from Apple News, and includes stock ticker above stories. Additionally, the Stocks app is coming to iPad for the first time.
