Lower-priced LCD iPhone expected to lead iPhone sales in September

The Wall Street Journal is expecting Apple’s widely rumored low-cost LCD iPhone model to lead iPhone sales in September when the company updates its iPhone line, citing sources involved with Apple’s supply chain who claim that the new 6.1-inch handset will  make up the majority of iPhone sales later this year.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen reports suggesting 2018 could be the year of the low-cost iPhone. In February reports from Thailand again suggested Apple’s 6.1-inch LCD iPhone would lead sales, with Apple being able to target customers who simply cannot afford the high price tag of the iPhone X because of reduced price components.

Over the past couple of months multiple reports have claimed to share details regarding Apple’s upcoming low-cost 6.1-inch LCD iPhone model, with some claiming the device will use what “Cover Glass Sensor” (CGS) technology that will make the device lighter and more resistant to damage, and others suggesting Apple could launch blue, yellow and pink models in an attempt to target the younger consumer market.

KGI Securities ex-analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a decent track-record when it comes to Apple, has previously shared an investor note in which he claims the company’s rumored low-cost 6.1-inch LCD iPhone could be priced as low as $550.

Alongside the new 6.1-inch LCD iPhone the Cupertino company is expected to launch an update to the existing iPhone X, featuring a smaller TrueDepth Camera system on the front, improved internals and a larger battery, alongside an iPhone X Plus with all the features of the new iPhone X, but with a larger OLED display.
