Apple allowing downloads of all personal data associated with Apple ID

Apple on Wednesday launched a new Data & Privacy website that gives users in Europe greater control over the data associated with their Apple ID, including the ability to download all personal data stored by Apple, and the power to temporarily deactivate their Apple ID.

The new tools allow users to check and download data stored on Apple’s servers, including app usage history, calendars, reminders, photos, and documents stored in iCloud, Apple Music and Game Center statistics, marketing history, and AppleCare support history.

Bloomberg first reported in March that Apple was preparing the new personal data download feature, in light of the upcoming GDPR regulations that mean businesses around the world who store data associated to customers in Europe must give more control over their personal data.

The new Data & Privacy tool is available for customers in Europe, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, with Apple saying it will roll out the service worldwide “in the coming months”.
