iPhone manufacturer Wistron to build new Indian factory

Apple manufacturer Wistron Corp has received approval to build a new assembly plant on 43 acres of land located approximately 40 miles away from Bengaluru, a move that could spark further iPhone production in the country.

The new facility, expected to cost approximately 6.8 billion rupees ($105 million) to build will create over 6,000 new jobs in the area.

Wistron Corp first began iPhone assembly in India last year, with Apple reportedly contracting the supplier  to focus on building the iPhone SE. Now that Apple production is further expanding in India, it’s possible that Wistron Corp could be contracted to produce other devices including the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s.

In February 2018 The Apple Post reported that Foxconn, Apple’s main production partner, had reconfirmed their intentions to open production facilities in India, with Foxconn representatives telling ministers from the state of Maharashtra that they will invest $5 billion in opening new facilities within the country.
