Leading Apple analyst claims the iPhone 8 will not feature a Touch ID sensor or any fingerprint recognition capabilities

According to KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo, dubbed the “best Apple analyst on the planet” by some, the iPhone 8 will not feature a Touch ID sensor or any fingerprint recognition capabilities. The report comes as Kuo claims the new OLED iPhone will adopt a new virtual home button and the highest screen-to-body ratio of any phone on the market.

When it comes to Apple analysts, Ming-Chi Kuo has proven to be one of the most reliable however; the idea of Apple totally eliminating fingerprint recognition from the iPhone raises some eyebrows. The reason behind the ditch appears to be technical challenges in integrating the Touch ID technology into the display itself. – To work around this, according to Kuo the front camera system on the iPhone 8 will support 3D depth sensing, enabling facial recognition authentication and ‘improved’ selfies.

It’s believed Apple will release two iPhone models in September, an iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus that will be minor updates to Apple’s current iPhone 7 offerings as well as an all new, dramatically redesigned iPhone 8. Reports claim the device will feature an edge-to-edge OLED display integrated into an all glass body.

We predict the OLED model won’t support fingerprint recognition, reasons being: (1) the full-screen design doesn’t work with existing capacitive fingerprint recognition, and (2) the scan-through ability of the under-display fingerprint solution still has technical challenges.
