Apple reportedly sent 80% of initial iPhone Duo stock to its stores

Apple reportedly directed around 80 percent of its initial iPhone Duo inventory to physical Apple Stores, leaving only about 20 percent for deliveries and pickup reservations when the foldable iPhone launched.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said on the latest Power On podcast that the figures came from people close to iPhone Duo logistics. AppleInsider reported the details after the podcast was released.

The split helps explain why online delivery estimates moved into 2027 within minutes of preorders opening on October 16, while customers who queued at some Apple Stores on launch day still managed to buy the device.

Gurman said individual stores may have received roughly 50 to 250 units, with flagship locations receiving more. Apple Fifth Avenue in New York was reportedly stocked particularly heavily as senior Apple executives attended the launch.

The report adds more context to what has become one of Apple’s tightest product launches in years. The Apple Post previously reported that iPhone Duo was entering launch with unusually constrained supply, while Apple described preorder demand as “nothing short of extraordinary.”

Stock remains difficult to find in many locations. Customers still looking for a device can use live Apple Store availability to look for iPhone Duo stock nearby rather than relying only on online delivery estimates.
