iPhone Duo can use StandBy without being connected to a charger, unlike other iPhone models. Partially folding the device lets it support itself while showing a clock, photos, widgets, Live Activities and other glanceable information.
StandBy is available when iPhone Duo is partially folded like a book or like a tent and placed down while on the Lock Screen. You can also choose which folding positions are allowed to trigger StandBy.
The charger-free behavior is one of the biggest differences between StandBy on iPhone Duo and StandBy on a conventional iPhone, and it makes the foldable useful as a temporary bedside clock, desk display or photo frame.
You do not need to plug iPhone Duo into power for StandBy to start. If StandBy does not appear, check that the folding position you are using is enabled in StandBy settings.
Go to Settings > StandBy, then select the positions you want to use. A checkmark appears beside each position that is enabled.
If you would rather have StandBy work only when iPhone Duo is charging, turn on Only While Charging from the same settings screen.
With StandBy running, tap the current face and swipe left or right to move between available faces. iPhone Duo also lets you add and customize StandBy faces.
StandBy can turn iPhone Duo into a clock, photo display or widget dashboard and can show Live Activities and notifications. Night Mode can dim the screen and use a red tint in low light, while notification previews can be hidden until you tap.
Apple explains the iPhone Duo-specific StandBy controls in the iPhone User Guide. The Apple Post has also covered iPhone Duo’s expanded StandBy experience as part of our complete guide to Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
