Apple confirms iPhone Duo will have only limited walk-in stock at launch

Apple has confirmed that iPhone Duo will be available in only limited quantities for walk-in customers at Apple Stores when the device launches on Friday, October 23, finally answering one of the biggest questions surrounding the company’s first foldable iPhone.

In a statement shared with MacRumors, an Apple spokesperson said stores will have limited iPhone Duo availability for customers who arrive without a reservation, while the company continues working to get the new device into buyers’ hands as quickly as possible.

The confirmation comes after days of uncertainty around launch-day Apple Store inventory. The Apple Post previously reported that some Apple Store employees were warning customers not to expect walk-in iPhone Duo stock, while Apple had stopped short of publicly confirming how much sellable inventory stores would receive.

Apple’s wording now makes clear that at least some walk-in purchases will be possible, but availability is expected to be tight. That means customers should not assume they will be able to arrive at an Apple Store on launch morning and choose any color or storage configuration they want.

The shortage follows an unusually intense preorder period. Apple has described iPhone Duo demand as “nothing short of extraordinary” after delivery estimates for new orders slipped into 2027, while the company has also limited U.S. purchases to two iPhone Duo devices per customer.

In Japan, Apple has gone even further. Apple says iPhone Duo purchases at its retail stores will temporarily require a reservation, removing walk-in sales entirely for a limited period.

iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 in the United States and £1,999 in the UK, with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage options in star white and night sky. Apple says availability begins Friday, October 23.
