iPhone Duo pre-orders are now open: How to order Apple’s first foldable iPhone

Apple has opened pre-orders for iPhone Duo, marking the first time customers can order the company’s first foldable iPhone ahead of its release next week.

Orders opened at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, October 16 across more than 70 countries and regions. iPhone Duo will officially launch one week later on Friday, October 23.

Apple first unveiled iPhone Duo at its “Surprise and shine” event in September, introducing a completely new form factor to the iPhone lineup with a 5.4-inch outer display that opens to reveal a 7.6-inch folding display.

The phone is available in star white and night sky.

How to pre-order iPhone Duo

Customers can order iPhone Duo through Apple’s online store and Apple Store app, with the device also available through participating carriers and retailers.

Anyone hoping to receive iPhone Duo on launch day should pay close attention to the estimated delivery date displayed during checkout. As with other major iPhone launches, delivery estimates can move beyond release day as initial stock is claimed.

iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 in the United States with 256GB of storage. Apple also offers 512GB, 1TB and 2TB configurations.

The $1,999 starting price puts iPhone Duo well above the conventional Pro lineup. By comparison, iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, making Apple’s foldable an $800 step up from the entry-level Pro.

When will iPhone Duo be released?

The first iPhone Duo orders are due to arrive Friday, October 23, when the device will also become available in Apple Stores and other participating retailers.

A further group of countries and regions will receive iPhone Duo beginning October 30.

The later launch means Apple’s foldable is arriving more than a month after iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

There is a software difference too. iPhone Duo will launch with iOS 27.1 rather than the initial version of iOS 27, giving Apple additional time to refine the software designed specifically for its new folding hardware.

Given that iPhone Duo represents an entirely new product category for Apple, it is difficult to predict how supply will compare with a conventional annual iPhone launch. Buyers determined to receive one during the first wave should therefore check availability early rather than assuming launch-day stock will remain readily available.

What you get with iPhone Duo

The main reason to spend $1,999 on iPhone Duo is its two-display design.

Closed, the 5.4-inch outer screen allows the device to work much like a compact iPhone. Opening it reveals the 7.6-inch inner display, giving users significantly more room for apps, video, browsing and productivity.

Apple has adapted iOS specifically around that larger display. Split View brings side-by-side multitasking to iPhone for the first time, allowing two different apps to run alongside each other or two windows from the same app to be displayed simultaneously.

Frequently used combinations can also be saved as app pairs, making it possible to reopen two apps together without setting up the layout again.

Inside, iPhone Duo uses the same A20 Pro chip found in iPhone 18 Pro, alongside a dual-battery architecture designed around the two halves of the foldable. Touch ID is integrated into the side button rather than using Face ID.

Apple is also bringing Apple Pencil support to iPhone for the first time with iPhone Duo. Apple Pencil with USB-C will work with both displays, although support will arrive through a software update later this year rather than being available at launch.

Apple is launching accessories designed specifically for the new form factor too, including a Folio with Kickstand that allows iPhone Duo to be positioned for watching video, making calls and other hands-free uses.
