Apple’s next Apple TV 4K is reportedly set to make a substantial performance jump with the standard A19 chip, replacing the A15 Bionic used in the current model.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple has chosen the A19 for the upcoming streaming box, providing a much newer processor as the company prepares to make Siri and smart home features a larger part of the Apple TV experience.
The chip detail narrows down one of the biggest unanswered questions around the refresh. Previous reports had pointed to several possible processor generations, but Bloomberg’s latest reporting identifies the standard A19 rather than a Pro variant.
The current Apple TV 4K was introduced in 2022 with the A15 Bionic. Moving to the A19 would skip several generations of Apple silicon and give the device significantly newer hardware for software features, gaming and voice processing.
The Apple Post has already covered the wider case for an Apple TV refresh at the October 13 “Welcome home” launch, including Apple’s push toward a more capable Siri experience across the home.
The new model is expected to retain the existing external design, making the processor and software capabilities more important to the upgrade than a visual redesign.
Bloomberg also says Apple has tested built-in microphones for hands-free Siri and a revised Siri Remote with a speaker, although neither feature is described as certain for the shipping product.
The A19 Apple TV 4K is reportedly due to arrive in stores and reach customers on October 30, alongside the next HomePod mini.
