Apple’s rumored homeOS could bring Siri AI and iPhone-style widgets to HomePad

Apple’s upcoming “Welcome home” event could introduce an entirely new operating system for the company’s long-rumored smart home hub, bringing Siri AI, touchscreen controls and familiar Apple apps to a shared household display.

The software, widely referred to as homeOS in reports, is expected to debut alongside the new device on October 13. Apple has confirmed the event but has not announced the operating system or its official name.

According to Bloomberg reporting summarized by 9to5Mac, the interface combines elements of several Apple platforms, including iPhone-style widgets, iPad-like app layouts and Apple Watch-style Home Screen icons.

The default screen is reportedly built around clocks and photo slideshows, with users able to swipe up to open an app launcher. The approach would make the hub useful as an ambient display even when nobody is actively controlling smart home devices.

Siri AI is expected to be the main way users interact with the software, answering requests about personal information and controlling compatible accessories. Touch input would provide another option for navigating apps and household controls.

Reported built-in apps include Music, Podcasts, Photos, Weather, FaceTime, Notes, Calendar, Messages and Reminders. Third-party widgets may be supported through an iPhone connection, although a standalone App Store is not expected.

The software would mark a shift from the existing HomePod experience, which relies primarily on voice commands and the Home app on other devices. A dedicated screen could make Apple’s home platform more accessible to multiple people in the same household.

Apple has not confirmed homeOS, its feature set or which devices it will support. The October 13 event should provide the first official details if the reported home hub is unveiled as expected.
